The Home Health Aide (HHA) program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist patients in the home with personal care, light household duties in addition to monitoring the patients' condition(s).  

 

Each student will be taught the core functions, which include but are not limited to the following:

 

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the area of science relevant to the home health aide's role, including anatomy and physiology.

  2. Apply standard practices to assist patients with the activities of daily living including bathing, dressing/grooming, and meal preparation.

  3. Assess the patient's physical and mental condition including vital signs and behavior activity level.

  4. React appropriately to emergency situations.

  5. Maintain accurate records of patient care conditions, progress, and change.

 

Each student's time will be divided between classroom instruction, laboratory time, and a supervised externship in the assisted living and nursing care facilities.
